Another Jacki Original…you knew you had this coming (Two quirky characters inspired Calienna. Can you guess which ones?)
Name: Jacki
Age: 9072
Contact Details: Mental Telepathy. Or PMs work just as well
Name: Calienna Vance
Nickname(s): none
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race/Class: Thyon
Residence: Chenu
Occupation: People sometimes come to her for magical fixes. She is wealthy enough not to need a true, paying job.
Weapon(s): Her illustrious powers and a great wit
Appearance: Calienna is what people might describe as, “pretty enough”. She would describe herself as “average” as far as looks go; nothing more. She is good looking enough not to be ignored, but nothing remarkable makes her stand out in the crowd. She has long blond hair that gets curly and wavy in the humidity. It reaches to about the small of her back and is almost always worn down and often has flowers woven into it somehow. It is very soft, and she often plays with it when bored. Calienna has round, dark brown eyes that are framed in long brown lashes and often have a very far-away look to them, as if her mind is not focused on anything grounded.
Calienna has a very long, oval face and high cheekbones, which accentuate her rounded eyes and full, pouty lips. Her cheeks are naturally rosy and even more so because she spends most of her time out of doors, in the sun (even in winter). She has a long, straight nose that perhaps protrudes a bit too much to be comfortable, but is not necessarily jarring. Her skin is pale and flawless, despite her frequent roll-abouts in the mud. Or, perhaps because of them. She stands at a comfortable five foot seven and is thin, but curvy enough if one has a penchant for that sort of thing.
Calienna has very long legs and arms. She appears graceful and, as a Thyon, has the abilities to move very quickly and with much agility- but she still has a halting, awkward way of walking and holding herself that makes her more boxy than one would expect a Thyon to be. She stands slightly bowlegged. Most of the time Calienna can be seen in long, flowy dresses in light colors. She hardly ever wears shoes.

Personality: To most people, Calienna is a very, very odd person. The nicer ones might describe her as quirky. She is often very spacey, taking long periods of time to answer questions. She has a tendency to forget what she was planning on saying midway through the sentence, going on to another tack before finishing her thought. People might judge this as stupidity, but in actuality it is due to the extremely fast pace that Calienna’s brain seems to move at. She is constantly thinking about four or five things at once, and never in sequential order. Therefore, she sometimes has problems organizing her thoughts. It is also due to this that Calienna has extreme problems sleeping at night; where a normal person takes on average a half an hour to fall asleep, it takes Calienna three, due to her overactive mind.
Calienna also has a habit of daydreaming. She loves stories—telling them, and hearing them—and is always dreaming them up in her head. This is rather unfortunate, as oftentimes she does it when she should be concentrating on something else. Coming up with the stories is Calienna’s only way of soothing her mind and helping it to focus on one thing for more than a couple of minutes. Calienna never writes her stories down; many of them are overly dramatic and would sound outrageous and silly if read by anyone else.
One of her most redeeming qualities is her sense of humor. Calienna loves playing jokes on people, and having jokes played on her. She is always making a witty remark or action to break the ice. Sometimes her wit becomes dry and sarcastic—mainly with men that she feels are too pompous for their own good. Few manage to understand some of the things that she finds humorous. It is true; she finds hilarity in some very odd things—people getting hurt, people getting confused, etc. She also loves to playfully manipulate people for the pure sake of humor.
Calienna spends a lot of time in the mud. No one can really quite explain it, and Calienna will not tell (probably because she finds everyone’s confusion over the matter highly entertaining). Whenever possible, Calienna will drop down to the ground and roll about in the mud—sometimes for hours on end. Oftentimes this results in unsuspecting passerby getting lobbed in the head with mudballs. No one ever catches her at it, as she manages to put up a Chameleon illusion to hide from her…victims.
Despite her quirks, Calienna is quite serious when she comes to her studies as a Thyon. She is an extremely intelligent woman and absorbs everything she learns like a sponge, and never forgets it. She can pull up random bits of information at whim. She is very skilled at her work and, though young, is extremely powerful.
One of Calienna’s biggest faults is that she possesses the pride of her race. She believes herself to be a step above of all others, as she is a Thyon and very powerful. She often looks down on lesser mortals and scoffs at their whining and problems. While she never says a harsh word, the looks she bestows are quite enough to convey her contempt for those she believes to be below her. Calienna also has a habit of abusing her powers- she will go to great lengths for amusement, and sometimes it results in people getting hurt.
History: Calienna was born to Addieus and Morgana Vance. She was the second of five children; Older brother, Marc (23), younger brother Sance (18), and younger sisters Lalia (13) and Estelle (12) were her constant companions growing up. She often did not see her parents; they traveled for long periods of time and, when they returned, were too tired to deal with five very loud, very active children. And boy, were they active. Most of the time the children ran around unsupervised, playing games, tricks on each other, and using their powers to scare unsuspecting neighbors. Even as a very young child, Calienna had a good hold on her magical capabilities. After sending a small snow cloud to follow their rather grouchy cook around (the cook ended up with pneumonia), their parents finally had to intervene. The children began their training as Thyons.
Calienna loved getting an education; while it did not allow her to come and go as she pleased, the information was interesting and she was soon able to hone her abilities quite effectively. Apart from learning the ways of the Thyons, the children were forced to undertake a private tutor…or twenty. It seemed as if a new tutor never stayed too long; the jokes the children played upon them were often too disconcerting for the tutor. Most often, the same jokes played on each one harbored a quick two-weeks notice. However, when Calienna was fourteen, a new tutor, Gericho Laven, came and for some reason resisted all the Vance children’s attempts to get rid of him.
Gericho was a very dashing man of about twenty three, with long brown hair and piercing blue eyes. He, like the children, had a mischievous sense of humor and found their practical jokes and tricks amusing, not alarming. Soon, he began playing tricks on the children, and camaraderie developed. It became a game with them; Marc, Calienna, Sance, Lalia, and Estelle would play a joke on him, and then Gericho would play one back. In the mean time, he managed to give the children the education they’d fought so hard to keep away. Soon, Calienna began developing a rather large crush on the man.
It was to her great disappointment and to the family’s when Gericho announced he was engaged and was leaving them. Callienna was eighteen at the time, and head over heels in love for the man. However, Calienna soon found there was nothing she could do to sway him. He was gone two months after his announcement. Heartbroken, Calienna decided it was time for her to leave her home and start out on her own.
She procured a large hut in the woods, where she lives. It is hardly a respectable living place; her parents are very disappointed by her choice, and constantly are on her case to marry into another wealthy Thyon family; but Calienna has another agenda. She lives in her wooden cabin in the woods, and many people come to her for help with their problems. She does not always help them, but almost always invites them for tea and cookies, which always turnes into a bit of an adventure for the other….
Role-play Sample:
Calienna heard a knock on her door. She glanced up, a rather mischievous grin spreading across her features. She lifted a hand and waved it; the door opened slowly. Calienna was sitting at her kitchen table, a good twenty feet from the door, and was entirely too lazy to get up to open it. “Come in!” She said cheerfully, closing the two books she had been reading (how she’d managed to read two books at once was anyone’s guess) and throwing them over her shoulder. The both landed with a loud THUMP! on the floor behind her.
“What do you want?” She asked simply to the man standing nervously at the door, clutching a cap in his hands and twisting it dreadfully. She moved her chair back and it scraped up against the books; she nearly fell over but caught herself quickly. “d**n,” she muttered under her breath. Getting up from the table she did a little complicated wiggle with her hand, and a big cushy armchair appeared across the table. “Sit,” she said before the man could answer her first question. She began waving her arms in a happy fashion, humming to herself as tea began to make itself.
“I…uh….well…” the man began, uncomfortably.
“Spit it out, I don’t have all day you know,” she said cheerfully, dancing in a little circle, her hair flying and her white gauze dress spinning. The man watched her, wide eyed.
“Well, me wife’s got this—”
“Your wife has a cat and it seems to be tearing up all the furniture, am I correct?” She said a bit irritably, stopping her spinning and grabbing the finished tea. She plopped down a gaudy pink and blue checked teacup in front of the man and poured some for herself. She plopped back down in the chair, her hair and skirts poufing out. “Look, I…” She stopped, looked up, and ducked as a small cloud sailed into the room, stopped over the man’s head, and began washing him with sheets and sheets of water. The man, already spooked by the woman, let out a strangled yell and dashed out of the house, his arms waving.
Callienna sat back, put her feet on the table, and cracked up.
