Your Character
[/center][/u]Name: Jais Demiris
Nickname(s): He’s usually called ‘Your Highness’ or ‘Sire’ but he prefers being called Jais.
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Race/Class: Royal
Residence: Thearis
Occupation: Prince
Appearance:
Jais’ hair is a mass of smooth black strands; not a streak of another color can be seen tainting the dark luster. He keeps his hair short, grazing only the tips of his ears, since he has always favored the rugged look to one that’s neat and seemingly over clean. His strands are often parted down the middle and are sometimes left to rest on his forehead and brushing his nape at the back. Jais’ skin tone, usually a light tan, could vary a degree or two considering his love for the outdoors.
However dark his complexion might become, it does nothing to dull the ever present sparkle of mirth within his silver-tinged light blue gaze. His eyes are a very expressive feature of his face. They have the tendency to flash with whatever emotion Jais feels, even before his body follows their reaction. Fringes of long, sable-colored lashes frame his communicative orbs and actually match the color of the two moderately thin brows sitting atop them.
Tracing the bridge of a tall and straight nose, we come upon a pair of shell-pink lips that can be as animated as his eyes. His lips are very much capable of enhancing whatever emotion is held within his gaze, be it a smile that brightens his face considerably or a scowl that swipes all traces of cheeriness from it. His lips often form a half-smile, lifting only one corner and granting him more boyish charm. Jais’ oval-shaped face, though it doesn’t make for pronounced cheekbones, it provides the young man with a strong, well-defined jaw.
Jais’ six-foot frame is a bit on the thin side aside from being rather tall. His limbs are long and lean, his shoulders fairly slender, his chest strong and his abdomen toned and tapering to a fine waist. His hands are rather large, long-fingered too. True, his body structure may create an impression of athleticism, but Jais’ frame is actually slender and would have been effeminate if not for the muscles he developed during puberty.
Jais is not the most attentive person when it comes to the way he slips his clothes on but he, as a crowned prince, has to force himself to check the neatness of his appearance. His robes most definitely don’t retain their crease-free trait at the end of the day. But then he prefers the rugged look it creates. He doesn’t like the heavy vestments he is sometimes made to wear and sheds them as soon as he could.
Personality:
Jais is extroverted, which is well and good, considering the fact that he is obliged to associate with different people under various circumstances. He draws around an attitude of openness, compassion and subtlety when associating with others, even those he doesn’t particularly like. It helps him out of rather sticky situations where mothers have tried to marry off their daughters to him.
He has an enormous amount of patience and tolerance when it comes to dealing with people. It enables him to stay calm and keep his thinking straight through critical situations. He has a keen eye for details though and bases his decisions on what he thinks will do best for everyone. Too, he tends to reflect many a time before he voices his decision.
It is, in fact, a rare occasion when Jais loses his temper or his composure but he is still human and is still susceptible to the risk. He often finds it difficult to deal with an outburst of emotions, especially if it was another person’s. Few people have the ability to read Jais’ expressions and he likes to keep it that way.
While he may appear insensitive, he does care. He feels very strongly for his friends and family and would even be willing to fight your fight if you ask him to. Jais is exceptionally stanch in whatever he has to do. If he feels he owes you something, he’ll do everything he can do to pay his debt off. Doing him a favor or showing him an ample amount of generosity goes far will earn you a friend for life.
History:
Twenty-one years past, Jais Ellery Quinlan Bryce was born to King Darius and Queen Adeline as dawn was but approaching the lands of Thearis, his wails resounding within the walls of the castle.
Jais was the second of their four children and the only one constantly beset with illness in his younger years. A rather handsome tot, many had commiserated with his difficulty in breathing. Jais had fragile lungs and needed help in drawing a breath into them. Healers in the realm had aided the royal family a great deal during Jais’ bouts of sickness. And if not for his mother’s continual care and devotion, the child would have suffered much worse.
Despite his frailty in health, Jais possessed a passionate spirit was not lacking in his ability to charm people around him. He fought his way through every respiratory attack and rarely ever showed any signs of surrendering to it; he was very much thankful that he hadn’t experienced any more of such bouts after he was six. His resistance to sickness may still be poor nowadays, making him slightly vulnerable but that has never stopped him from enjoying a great deal of the outdoors. Between lessons in etiquette, conduct, fencing and archery, Jais spent every chance he got outdoors. He especially loved riding, swimming and simply relishing the feeling of a breeze sweeping past him out on a summer day.
Among his siblings, Jais seemed to appreciate the people around him more. His elder brother, Garrick, was more often than not, absorbed in whatever affairs their father had him think over. His two younger sisters were perpetually fussing over their hair and their possible suitors whom Jais thought were less than apt for them. Jais, in the meantime, could spend the day in the kitchens, talking to the servants and maids and gaining knowledge about their way of living and perhaps getting to know their families.
Although Jais was a fairly sociable creature, he never really preferred to be in formal events and such. The first time he’d attended a come-out party, the mother of the debutante flattered him to no end and had overtly hinted at her daughter’s availability. Jais was only nineteen then and too young, compared to Garrick’s three and twenty years, to offer for the girl even if he was already four years her senior. Men had often married later than women and Jais had no intention of procuring a bride for himself that early in his life. Come-out parties hadn’t tickled his fancy then and he still does slightly dread them until now.
Jais never found it hard to keep himself amused. The castle had a large library and he’d even taken to drawing and trying to paint some. He loved reading too as it kept his mind sharp. He cherished the fact that he was pampered within the walls of the castle but he didn’t like being naïve to what transpires outside the castle walls. He frequently accompanies Garrick on official businesses and treasures the sights and sounds of the different places in the realm.
While there is a widespread of catastrophes in the realm, Jais tries to retain a semblance of normality in his life. He could only hope for the best and pray that the worst would never come.
